TMA (Titanium-Molybdenum Alloy) straight wire—also known as Beta-Titanium—is a specialized archwire that serves as an intermediate tool between highly flexible Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) and rigid Stainless Steel (SS). • Intermediate Stiffness: TMA provides approximately 40% of the force of an equivalent stainless steel wire, making it softer and more comfortable for patients while offering more control than NiTi.
• High Springback: It has about twice the “range of action” or springback of stainless steel, meaning it can undergo significant deflection and still return to its original shape.
• Weldability: TMA is the only orthodontic wire that can be directly welded without losing its mechanical properties or requiring solder, allowing for the attachment of custom hooks or loops.
